a kuti (hut) on the hill of phu long in the northeastern province, approximately 6-8 hours by car from bangkok. the hut is simply built with concrete and has convenient toilet facility. the temple is the highest of the three temples in the hilly region and sees few visitors. the 3-4 monks and a mae chi (thai nun) practise the forest tradition by living close to nature and relying little on modern conveniences. there are two daily chanting sessions at five a.m. and five p.m. in pali, followed by meditation or a dharma talk by the abbot, phra paisan visalo. after the morning chant, the monks go on alms round. p.oay has kindly brought food and made meals for the monks who take breakfast, occasional lunch and no dinner.
